Northland Research, Inc. is an
Arizona Corporation specializing in contracted research
services. The majority of its activities consist of
cultural resource research, but complete environmental
analyses also are performed. Formed in 1978, Northland
is an independent operator, with no parent company or
subsidiary relationships. The owner of Northland is also
its manager, involved in the day-to-day direction of the
firm's activities. At its Flagstaff office, Northland
conducts management and administration of Northland's
operations. Since its formation in 1978,
Northland has conducted thousands of cultural resources
investigations of all kinds throughout the intermountain West.
Projects undertaken have ranged from small-scale
clearance surveys of less than an acre to full-scale,
intensive excavation of archaeological sites. Within
this wide range, Northland has also performed
assessments of archaeological sites, ruins
stabilization, Class I archaeological site files and
literature searches, Class II sample surveys, Class III
intensive surveys, monitoring of construction, and
specialized analyses. Our operations are focused on
rapid turnaround. Our experienced, full-time staff
normally begins a typical survey within seven days of
acceptance of the contract; reports of findings are
generally finished within seven business days of
conclusion of the survey. In emergency/discovery
situations, a Northland archaeologist can be on his/her
way within minutes of receiving the call. Clients
include federal, state, municipal, and Native American
agencies as well as private companies. An additional
measure of Northland's renown is that its staff and
services are often subcontracted to other companies.
Northland is a strong supporter
of disseminating results of investigations in
publications and presentations. Technical reports are
routinely sent to fellow cultural resources firms,
museums, libraries and federal, state and municipal
agencies. Copies are on file at Northland's offices and
always available to qualified individuals. Four
manuscripts based on our recent projects are currently
in the final stages of submission to professional
journals and we routinely present our findings at
regional and national conferences.
Northland is a leader in public
involvement programs for archaeological work. Our public
program at the Heritage Square Archaeological Project
was the 1995 Governor's Award, Education category
recipient. Public outreach and multimedia productions
are a regular offshoot of our research. Northland
participates in Arizona Archaeology Awareness Month, and
personnel routinely make presentations for school
classes and other groups. In conjunction with Echo
Productions, a nationally recognized video-production
company located in Flagstaff, we have produced publicly
available videos on previous projects. Most recently, we
have produced an interactive CD on our work on the Grewe
Archaeological Research Project (click here

project). |
